For a few years, the Italian Language School IL FARO has been offering scholarships to students of Italian in European Universities to attend our language courses at a discounted rate. Students from several universities have taken advantage of the opportunity, among which, students from University of Galway in Ireland, University of Geneva in Switzerland, University of Pilsen in the Czech Republic, University of Graz in Austria, University of Ghent in Belgium and many others.

Le immagini della fantasia 32, Sàrmede (TV), Casa della fantasia, 26.10.2014 > 18.01.2015

On October 25th 2014 the 32nd edition of Le immagini della fantasia was inaugurated in Sàrmede (Treviso). The exhibition has always offered a public of enthusiasts and professionals, both young and old, a broad glimpse of the world of children’s illustration, displaying outstanding examples of artistic expression in terms of aesthetic innovation and narrative wealth. Each year La Casa della Fantasia plays host to hundreds of illustrators, authors, publishers and books representing the many aspects of this extraordinary international panorama and confirming the value of the illustrated book as a tool for knowledge and a means of conveying beauty. Extensive research and intense discussion with the sector also give rise to additional display sections, used by the numerous educational programmes to find out How a book is created, meet a Guest of honour and discover Tales from all over the World; so that readers young and old can set off from Sàrmede on other adventures, from book to book. The promotion of passion for illustration and reading, addressing an ever-wider public, is one of the exhibition’s objectives as it journeys tirelessly on. World War I in our Friuli Venezia Giulia

In the period between May 1915 and November 1917, Friuli Venezia Giulia staged the fights between the Italian and the Austro-Hungarian armies, which faced each other harshly for several months.

Karst, Isonzo area, Julian Alps and Pre-Alps, Carnic Alps and the hilly area along the Tagliamento line were the locations of fights, whereas the whole plain became a large area behind the front line in the service of the armed forces and was later invaded by the Austro-German troops after the defeat of Caporetto (Kobarid).

Today, the signs of those battles can still be seen in various places of the region and are not-to-be-missed destinations if you wish to discover from close up this big event, which changed our history.

Thanks to cart roads and CAI (Italian Alpine Club) paths you can reach the various open-air museums, which feature the remains of the war structures built and used by many soldiers. Following the proposed itinerary, you can go on thrilling walks, often in the middle of breathtaking landscapes, which will make you feel part of the context of life in a trench.

Some of these itineraries have been designed by the various regional associations that deal with the restoration and enhancement of the First World War sites.

Possagno is the home of the greatest neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova.

Excellent sculptor, known all over the world, left his great art heritage in his own Birth-house and in the nearby solemn Gipsoteca built in 1836 that collects almost all his plaster cast models, terracotta scale models, drawings and paintings.

Today this museum constitutes a necessary reference point for all the museums in the world that jealously preserve the marble masterpieces, expressions of his talent: the Musée du Louvre, the Ermitage of S. Saturday February 15/2014: ZOMBIE WALK VENEZIA 2014

On the occasion of the Opening of the Carnival, the first Venice Zombie Walk will take place in town!
The ZOMBIE WALK is a parade made of people dressed up as real zombie. The parade will follow a preset path, stumbling and imitating the style of the zombies, classical characters of books and of contemporary cinema and tv serials.

The trend of th Zombie Walk, born in the USA, is now arriving in Europe and also in Italy and the venetian edition, who is considered to be the biggest ever organized in Italy, will include also the "landing" of the zombies in town, at the Fondamenta delle Zattere, at 4.00 pm, where a boat will arrive, full of "walking dead" people. The parade will start here, reaching the Pescheria place, where will take place theZOMBIE PARTY, with drinks, food and music.

Robert Capa - La realtà di fronte

From 19 October 2013 to 19 January 2014, Villa Manin, Friuli Venezia Giulia, will host a major retrospective dedicated to the famous photographer Robert Capa (1913-1954), considered the father of modern photojournalism.

They will be featured in the Exhibition all the major experiences that characterize the work of Robert Capa: the Paris years, the Spanish Civil War, the War between China and Japan, the Second World War with the Normandy landings, the Russia of the Second World War, the birth of the state of Israel and, finally, the conflict in Indochina, where Capa died in 1954.

FluSSidiverSi: poetry festival/Caorle from 7th to 9th June 2013

FluSSidiverSi: Poems and poets of the Alpe Adria region, is a festival, from 7th to 9th June 2013 in Caorle, organised by the Alps Adriatic Working Community, the Veneto Region and the Caorle town council.

The exhibition is basically a symposium with poets, translators, editors and live music in the "campielli" of Caorle with breakfasts and dinners with the poets, artistic workshops for children in squares and on the beach.

This edition will be dedicated to Vivian Lamarque.

May 12th: the Sensa Festival (Venice)

The Sensa Festival commemorates a historical event that took place on Ascension Day, May 9th 1000. On that day,  Doge Pietro Orseolo II left Venice at the head of a great fleet, to defend the inhabitants of Zara and Dalmatia against the incursions of Croatians and Narentines. Before leaving, the Doge boarded the cerimonial galley, the Bucintoro, and set out to sea along San Nicolò di Lido Canal, while  the Bishop of Venice gave his blessing to the Adriatic. Having reached the mouth of the harbour, the Doge then threw a golden ring into the sea to symbolically marry Venice to the sea and demonstrate  the Serenissima's domination of the gulf. Every year since then, the Doge (now the Mayor of Venice) has repeated this solemn ritual. The re-enactment of this cerimony is also accompained by numerous other attractions, including the Sensa market in the cloisters of the San Nicolò church on the Lido, and the Voga alla Veneta rowing races - the water parade staged by Associazioni Remiere (Venice Rowing Club)

Literary Trieste Tour

This stroll in the town centre of Trieste is an opportunity to breathe the atmosphere that inspired some among the greatest Italian and European writers and to visit the favourite places of the outstanding figures of literature who lived in Trieste such as Saba, Svevo, and Joyce.The tour begins in Piazza Unità, from where we meander through the alleyways of Cittavecchia, an area beloved by Italo Svevo who took here his daily strolls, and by Joyce who in his writings reproduced faithfully the heterogeneous and frenzy climate of this area. Opposite the Teatro Verdi, which Joyce used frequent since he was an opera lover, there stood the Union Bank offices where Svevo worked for as many as 18 years; life in that bank became the scenery for his first novel: Una Vita (A Life).The tour continues along Via San Nicolò. At number 30 you can find the "Umberto Saba" Antiquarian Bookshop, which was managed by the poet with the same name and on whose shelves precious volumes are still to be found. At number 32 is the palace which used to be the headquarters of the Berlitz School, the institute where Joyce worked for several years as an English teacher, and where the friendship between the Irish writer and Italo Svevo began. Moving on towards Viale XX Settembre, at number 16, you can find the palace where Ettore Schmitz, better known under the name of Italo Svevo, was born.

I participated at an intensive language course in Italy from 17.09.2012 to
28.09.2012. Therefore I decided to study at the school IL Faro. The school is located
in the center of Caorle. It takes just a few minutes to get to the beach or to the
Citycenter, where all the shops and restaurants are. While studying I lived in a
holiday apartment in front of the beach. The apartment was very nice and pretty
modern. I booked this apartment at the agency "adriamare" which was recommended to me
by school.
There are three teachers at school. The Italian courses are taught exclusively in
Italian language. This is conductive to advanced learning. The school also provides
all the study material. The main season in Italy ends in September. This is
particularly noticeable at school, because there are just a few students. Therefore
I had private lessons with Miss Liviana Cechet. There have been two students from
Kanada, too, who participated in another course. Every day I had to prepare some
homework, for example grammar or writing exercises. The following day I discussed
the homework with my teacher. So I had the chance to improve my knowledge about the
italian language in dialogue.
I can highly recommend this school, especially the committed and motivated
teachers. Moreover the school organizes Sight Seeing Tours. This is an
extraordinary opportunity to get to know the Italian culture.
I had a very nice time in Caorle and in addition it was possible for me to improve my
Italian language skills within a short time.

What they say about us: Italian Society’s group Amicizia study holiday

The language school (il Faro) was in the centre of the old part of the village and proved to be of very high quality indeed. The group was divided in three depending on the level of tuition required. All members felt their Italian improved as the lessons were well suited to their existing language ability.

This Easter a group of Amicizia members from Sligo and Dublin, totalling 20 in all, made their way to the resort village of Caorle between Venice and Trieste. The area is unlike any of the places visited in previous years- resembling parts of Holland and Belgium rather than the usual Umbrian-Tuscan scenery. Long sandy beaches interrupted by lagoons that stretch for miles into the interior, small settlements based on cultivation of the flat canal drained fields, small scale fishing from the shallow Adriatic, wine making and of course tourism. The group arrived on Easter Sunday so the following day ( la Pasquetta) being a major holiday for Italians brought large crowds to the village. The hotel on the beach used by the group was full for a few nights but later things quietened down and Caorle took a deep breath before the summer season.

Several trips were made to surrounding places of interest. Close to Caorle is one of the largest areas in Italy for the production of organic wine and the group took a bus to visit the farm of the Piccinin family "Le Carline". Naturally a sampling of the produce was needed. Members were surprised to find this winemaker has a delicious white wine labelled "AMICITIA" the Latin version of the name of the society. The excursion to Venice was by ferry from Punto Sabbioni to Piazza San Marco which was a delightful way to reach the old town of Venice which is so incantevole that it simply defies description.

Some members went to Trieste, a frontier city with notable historic overtones, others went to Portogruaro closer to Caorle. A private coach was hired to visit Padova, site of one of the oldest universities in Europe.
